Alraseef 153
In 2021 we established Alraseef 153 directly across the street from Seven Hills Skatepark. Drawing on the artistic roots of skateboarding, Alraseef aims to provide space for creative experimentation and expression for youth in Amman. At the core of the space are the principles of multidisciplinarity, collaboration, and DIY culture.
We chose the name Alraseef because it is Arabic for sidewalk; a grey zone that is neither public nor private space. We aim for Alraseef 153 to be an extension of the sidewalk; an open platform for young creatives to develop their practice around a supportive and inclusive community. Like the sidewalk, the space is ever-changing, serving as a vibrant creative hub yet a blank canvas for anyone to experiment, collaborate, and make.
Alraseef 153 not only provides the equipment and tools to experiment and make but also workshops for Amman’s youth to develop and master long-term hard skills. The space hosts introductory sessions and structured workshops that support creatives to develop their skills in an open and collaborative environment. We organize silk screen printing, carpentry, media, and sewing workshops amongst others.
As an ever-changing, vibrant, and experimental hub, Alraseef 153 will continue to evolve in its offerings whilst adapting to new challenges and needs of the community around Seven Hills. We see it as a blank canvas for those involved with Seven Hills Skatepark to come and be supported in making new things happen. We hope the peer-to-peer learning of this process supports the development of our community, whilst also providing the skills and equipment for young people to try new things.
Alraseef 153 serves as the social enterprise arm of Seven Hills working to support our non-profit programs through paid adult workshops, merchandise, and services we provide for local brands.
The Creative Program
As an extension of the skateboarding culture and with the aim to diversify our programs and give the youth different platforms to tap into their potential, Alraseef 153 houses different spaces (woodwork workshop, photography studio, sewing studio, printmaking studio, and a media lab) that not only offer different workshops for our youth but also workshop spaces for the general public.
In 2023 we hosted multiple series of creative workshops, featuring animation and stopmotion, experimental drawing and monoprinting, print and paper making, illustration, sewing and carpentry.
Print-Making Studio
The print-making studio is where we host workshops for the youth and where we produce merchandise for Seven Hills as well as other local brands. The studio is fully equipped and available for hire or to support brands in producing their merch.
Our merch is designed by the community and is produced in-house in collaboration with our community.
